Health and Care Bill, Second Reading, House of Lords, 7 December 2021
The LGA broadly supports the Bill’s focus on improving the health and wellbeing of the population through greater integration between NHS organisations and between the NHS and local government. We also support the duty on the integrated care board (ICB) and all local authorities within the integrated care system (ICS) to have regard to the integrated care strategy in making decisions.
The LGA Cyber Challenge
From January to March 2022 we will be piloting this new 'challenge' to encourage councils to explore their cyber security culture – sharing fresh perspectives in a safe, friendly and constructive environment. We are seeking expressions of interest from councils, councillors and council officers to take part in the challenge as participating councils or as peers.

Swindon BC set up a menopause group in response to media and celebrity profile building, and a suggestion from an employee for the need to open up the discussion about menopause to positively address personal and business needs for being menopause aware.
Cornwall’s first smart-grid enabled wind turbine
As part of our work to cut carbon emissions and increase renewable energy in Cornwall, we have installed a new smart-grid enabled wind turbine in partnership with Centrica that will create enough green energy to power over 1,440 Cornish homes a year.

Treasury Management in the Public Services Code of Practice and Cross-Sectoral Guidance Notes
Overall, we have significant concerns with the proposed changes to the Prudential Code and these are outlined in our response to the consultation on that. We are equally concerned at how those changes interact with and impact on the Treasury Management Code. In particular we are concerned that activity that is currently seen as good practice in Treasury Management will be restricted to the detriment of councils’ finances.
